Remove Photo Metadata Before Listing on Vinted
Last updated · 4 min read
Quick answer
Vinted says in an older privacy policy that it deletes photo metadata with personal data right away. The wording suggests that Vinted still receives the metadata first. Clean your photos with WipePic before you upload them, so the location and the device data never leave your computer or phone.
What a Vinted listing photo can reveal
Most Vinted photos are taken at home: clothes on a bed, a hanger on a door or a mirror selfie in the bathroom. If your phone saves the location, each photo can carry the GPS position of your home. The same file can show when you took the photo and which phone you used.
People who sell often post many items. A set of photos from the same place, taken on different days, can show a pattern. That is more than one photo shows alone.
What Vinted says about metadata
The Vinted privacy policy that was valid until September 15, 2025 (last updated April 22, 2025) lists “metadata of the photos you upload (geolocation, device ID number, date and time of photo taken, etc.)” among the data that Vinted processes. In the same text, it says: “Photo metadata containing personal data is deleted immediately.”
That is useful, but it has limits. The policy says Vinted collects the metadata and then deletes it. It does not say where in the process the deletion happens. The current policy is published as a PDF, and we could not read its text, so we could not check whether it still says the same. Read it yourself if this matters to you.
Whatever Vinted does, you can decide that it never gets the data. That is the point of cleaning the photo first.
The policy does not explain the words “containing personal data”. It names the geolocation and the device ID number as examples, so it is safest to assume that all the metadata in a photo can count. For comparison, the same policy says that deleted items and their photos are stored for 6 months. Photo metadata is the part that it says is deleted at once.
How to clean your Vinted photos with WipePic
- Take all your photos and finish any edits.
- Open WipePic on your phone or computer.
- Add the photos, or drop in a folder. You can add up to 300 files, up to 50 MB each.
- Check the groups of metadata that WipePic lists. Click one file to see every field and, if it has GPS data, a dot on a small offline world map.
- Select Remove Metadata. Your photos stay in your browser. They are not uploaded.
- Download the cleaned files. Several files come as one ZIP. Unzip it and add the files to your Vinted listing.
WipePic does not re-encode the photos, so they look the same. It keeps the orientation and the color profile. It also reads each cleaned file again and saves it only if no removable metadata is left. If your phone saves photos as HEIC, WipePic can clean them without converting them. See remove metadata from HEIC.
To see what a photo holds before you clean it, select View Metadata in WipePic. You can do this for a few photos first, to see what your phone saves.
More tips for safe Vinted photos
- Mirror selfies. A mirror can show your room, a window with a view or a door number. Pick a plain wall.
- Name tags. Clothes for children often have a name tape or a school label with a full name. Cover it or crop it.
- Parcel labels. A photo of a postage receipt or a label can show an address. Do not include it.
- Backgrounds. Check for house numbers, street signs, car plates and post that lies on a table.
- Faces. If you do not want your face in the listing, crop it out before you clean the photo.
- New photos. Turn off the location tag in your camera. Read how to stop your camera from saving location.

Questions
Does Vinted remove the location from my photos?
An older version of the Vinted privacy policy, valid until September 15, 2025, says that photo metadata with personal data is deleted immediately. We could not read the text of the current version, so we cannot say if it repeats this. Remove the metadata yourself before you upload.
If Vinted deletes the metadata, why should I clean my photos?
The policy lists photo metadata, such as the geolocation and the device ID number, among the data that Vinted collects. That suggests Vinted gets your original file with its metadata before it deletes it. If you clean the photo first, Vinted never receives that data from you.
Does Vinted hide the location in my profile as well?
The location of your profile or account is a separate matter. It is not the hidden data inside your photo. Removing metadata from photos does not change what your Vinted profile shows.
Can I clean photos of many items at once?
Yes. Add up to 300 files, up to 50 MB each, or a whole folder. WipePic gives you the cleaned files as one ZIP if you clean several of them.
Will cleaning remove the label or the face in my photo?
No. WipePic removes only the hidden data in the file. It does not edit the picture. Crop or cover labels, faces and anything else that you do not want to show.
