CAMERA DATA REMOVER

Remove Camera Details From a Photo

WipePic removes the camera details from your photos in your browser. The camera make and model, serial numbers, lens data and capture dates are deleted from the file, and your photo never leaves your device.

What a photo says about your camera

Every camera and phone writes its own details into the photo file. The make, the model and often a serial number identify the device. The date and the time zone show when you took the picture. If you sell a camera, post under a pseudonym or share work photos, these details can link your photos to you. The metadata guide lists the other things a photo can contain.

What WipePic removes for camera details

WipePic removes these fields when the photo has them:

  • Device: camera make and model, including the localised model name, and the camera label.
  • Serial numbers and owner: body serial number, camera serial number, lens serial number, and the owner name and camera owner name.
  • Lens: lens make, lens model and lens details (focal length and aperture range).
  • Maker data: the whole manufacturer block (MakerNote), the XMP camera fields (make, model and the aux lens and serial fields), and the PNG make and model fields.
  • Dates and time zone: the date taken, the date created and the date changed, the time zone offsets and the fractions of a second, in EXIF, XMP, IPTC and PNG.
  • Exposure settings: ISO, aperture, shutter speed and the other EXIF fields. WipePic writes a new EXIF block with only the rotation and the colour information.
  • Software: the software name, the processing software and the computer name, and the XMP edit history and editing settings.
  • Thumbnails: embedded preview images, which can carry their own camera data.

WipePic also removes the location, the author and copyright, comments and AI settings. See remove location from a photo and remove AI metadata. After cleaning, WipePic checks the new file, and it does not save the file if the check finds anything left.

What stays

  • Rotation and colour. WipePic keeps the orientation and the colour profile, so the photo still shows correctly.
  • HDR brightness values. On HDR photos with an Apple gain map, WipePic keeps two Apple values (HDRHeadroom and HDRGain) that the HDR display needs. It keeps no other maker data.
  • The camera model in DNG files. A DNG needs its model name (UniqueCameraModel) and its RAW decoding data to open. WipePic keeps them and shows them as kept.
  • Everything in the picture. WipePic does not edit pixels. Sensor noise patterns and a visible watermark stay.

How to remove the camera details

  1. Add your photos to the tool above.
  2. Check the list of fields that WipePic found, such as the camera model and the date taken.
  3. Download the cleaned copies. The originals stay unchanged on your device.

WipePic reads JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, DNG, GIF and TIFF files. Have a look at the pages for JPEG and HEIC for format details.

Questions

Why remove the camera details from a photo?

The camera make, model and serial number can link several photos to one device and one owner. Together with the date and time, they show when you took a photo and with what. Removing them before you share a photo keeps that link private.

Does WipePic remove the camera serial number?

Yes. WipePic removes the body serial number, the camera serial number and the lens serial number, together with the owner name when the file has one.

Does it remove ISO, aperture and shutter speed?

Yes. WipePic writes a new, minimal EXIF block that holds only the rotation and the colour information. Exposure settings such as ISO, aperture and exposure time are not copied into it.

Does WipePic remove the camera model from DNG files?

No. A DNG file needs its camera model name (UniqueCameraModel) to be decoded, so WipePic keeps that one field and the RAW decoding data, and it lists them as kept. It removes the other device details, the dates and the location from the DNG.

Is my photo uploaded to remove the camera details?

No. WipePic runs in your browser and your photo stays on your device. WipePic is free, with no account and no usage quota.
