Remove the Video From a Motion Photo
Drop your Samsung or Pixel photo on the box below to remove the short video hidden inside it. WipePic cuts off the video and keeps the still image, with no change to the pixels. It is free and works in your browser, so your photo is not uploaded.

How to remove the video from a Motion Photo
- Drop your photos on the box, or choose them from your device. You can also pick a folder.
- WipePic looks at each photo. A photo with a clip shows “Motion Photo video” in the list of what it found.
- Click Remove hidden data.
- Download the cleaned photo, or the ZIP file if you cleaned several photos.
Why a Motion Photo can share more than you think
Samsung Galaxy phones and Google Pixel phones can save a short MP4 video inside the JPEG file. You see one still photo, but the file also holds a clip of the moments around it. When the whole file travels, the clip can travel with it. The clip can show things that the still photo does not show, such as what happened a moment before.
Many apps handle this in their own way, and the result can change with an app update. WipePic does not guess. It removes the video from the file itself, so the photo is a plain still image wherever you send it.
How to stop your phone from making Motion Photos
This only helps for new photos. It does not change photos that you already took.
- Samsung Galaxy: open Camera in Photo mode and tap the Motion Photo icon so that it is off. Samsung's support page for the Galaxy S26 camera describes this (checked on 8 November 2026). The icon can be in the quick controls on some models.
- Google Pixel: open Camera, tap Settings and set Top Shot or Motion Photos to Off. Google's Pixel Camera Help lists Top Shot for Pixel 9a and earlier, and newer Pixels can show Motion Photos instead (checked on 8 November 2026).
For photos that you already have, use WipePic to take the video out.
What WipePic keeps
The still image, its orientation and its color profile stay. WipePic does not compress the image again, so the quality is the same. It removes the attached video and the other hidden data in the file, such as location, phone model and date taken. To see what a photo holds before you clean it, click its row in the list.
Your photo stays on your device
WipePic cleans your photos in your browser. It does not upload them, and you do not need an account. For more on the Samsung and Android steps, read how to remove EXIF data on a Samsung phone and on Android.
Questions
How do I remove the video from a Motion Photo?
Drop the photo on the box above. If it holds a video, WipePic lists "Motion Photo video" under what it found. Click Remove hidden data, then download the cleaned file. The still image stays, and the attached video is gone. Your original file does not change.
What is a Motion Photo?
A Motion Photo is a normal JPEG photo with a short video clip stored inside the same file. Samsung Galaxy phones and Google Pixel phones can take them. The photo looks like any other photo, but the file is larger because it also carries the clip.
Does the video stay in the file when I share the photo?
It can. The clip is part of the file, so if you send the original file as a file, or upload it somewhere that keeps the original, the clip can go with it. Some apps and sites remove it or show only the still image, but this differs from app to app. If you want to be sure, remove the video before you share.
How do I turn off Motion Photos on my phone?
On a Samsung Galaxy, open Camera, then tap the Motion Photo icon so that it is off (Samsung describes this on its support page for the Galaxy S26 camera, checked on 8 November 2026; the place of the icon differs by model and One UI version). On a Google Pixel, open Camera, tap Settings and set Top Shot or Motion Photos to Off (Google Pixel Camera Help, checked on 8 November 2026; the name differs by model). Both settings change only new photos. Photos that you took before keep their video, so clean them with WipePic.
Does WipePic change the quality of the still image?
No. WipePic does not decode and compress the image again. It cuts the video off the end of the file and copies the image data as it is, so the pixels do not change. It also reads the cleaned file again, and saves it only if no removable data is left.
Does it remove the location and other hidden data too?
Yes. When you click Remove hidden data, WipePic removes the Motion Photo video together with the other kinds of hidden data that it found in the photo, such as GPS location, phone model and date taken. It keeps the orientation and the color profile.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. WipePic works in your browser, so your photos and their file names are not uploaded. The site uses Google Analytics for visit statistics, but your photos never leave your device.
