The engine under ExifCleaner
ExifCleaner uses ExifTool underneath, and its README says it has the same writer limitations. If you compare it with ExifTool itself, you get the same cleaning with a window to drop files into.
Where ExifCleaner is better
- More formats: RAW from many camera makers, video and PDF, as well as photos.
- It is open source (MIT) and a local app. Its README says it has no network access and no telemetry.
- It handles very large batches from folders on your computer.
Where WipePic is better
- Nothing to install, and no "unsigned app" warning from your system. It also runs on a phone.
- It checks every result before saving. WipePic re-reads the cleaned file and saves it only if no removable metadata is left and the image data is unchanged.
- Cleaned files download as one ZIP.
WipePic is not open source yet and has two technical limits: 300 files per batch and 50 MB per file. See the full list of alternatives.
