How to convert WebP to PNG

  1. Add your WebP photos. Drop them on the box above, or pick them from your device. You can add up to 300 files in one batch, each up to 50 MB.
  2. Check that the Format is set to PNG. WipePic has already chosen PNG for you on this page.
  3. Download the PNG files. One file is saved as it is, and several files are saved as a ZIP.

Why convert WebP to PNG?

You have a WebP image and need a PNG, for example to keep its transparency in a program that does not read WebP.

What to know about this conversion

  • PNG keeps transparency and has no quality setting, because it stores the pixels without loss. A PNG of a photo is usually larger than the WebP.
  • An animated WebP is not converted. WipePic keeps the original file and tells you why.
  • The converted photo is turned upright using its Orientation tag, and the new file has the extension .png.
  • When the colors of a photo cannot be kept in the new file, WipePic converts them to sRGB and shows a note on the file.

Your photos stay on your device

The conversion runs in your browser. WipePic does not upload your photos, does not need an account and has no usage quota. Each converted file is also cleaned of its hidden metadata, so you can share it right away.

Questions

Does the PNG keep the transparent background of my WebP?

Yes. PNG supports transparency, and the transparent pixels stay transparent.

Why is the PNG larger than the WebP?

WebP often compresses with some loss, which makes small files. PNG has no loss, so the same picture takes more space. A conversion cannot bring back detail that the WebP already dropped.

Does the WebP to PNG conversion run on a server?

No. Your browser decodes the WebP and writes the PNG on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

Does the WebP to PNG conversion remove metadata?

Yes. WipePic removes the hidden metadata, such as the GPS location, the camera model and the capture time, and then converts the picture. The new PNG file is cleaned once more, so it carries none of it.
