Remove metadata from PNG images
Add your PNG images to the tool above and WipePic removes the text chunks, XMP, EXIF, timestamp, AI generation settings and Content Credentials from each file. Transparency, colour information and animation stay, and nothing is uploaded.

What metadata does a PNG file contain?
A PNG file is a list of chunks. Besides the picture, it can hold these hidden chunks:
- Text chunks (tEXt, zTXt and iTXt): fields such as Author, Copyright, Comment, Description, Title, Software and Creation Time.
- XMP: a larger block of author, rights and editing data, stored inside an iTXt chunk.
- AI generation settings: image generators such as Stable Diffusion tools, ComfyUI and InvokeAI write the prompt, the seed and the workflow into text chunks (for example Parameters, Prompt and Workflow).
- An EXIF chunk (eXIf) with the camera, the date and the GPS location.
- A modification time (tIME chunk).
- Content Credentials (C2PA), stored in their own chunk.
- Colour chunks: an ICC profile, gamma, chromaticities and sRGB. These describe how to show the colours.
What WipePic removes and keeps in PNG files
WipePic removes:
- Text chunks, including Author, Copyright, Comment, Description and Software
- AI generation settings: prompt, parameters and workflow
- XMP data
- Capture and modification dates (including the tIME chunk)
- GPS location and device details in an EXIF chunk
- Content Credentials (C2PA)
- Any other chunk that is not needed to draw the picture
WipePic keeps:
- Every pixel, and the transparency (alpha channel and tRNS).
- Colour information: the ICC profile, gamma, chromaticities and sRGB.
- Animation, so an animated PNG (APNG) still plays.
- The orientation, when the file has an EXIF orientation other than normal.
WipePic keeps the chunks that the picture needs and rewrites the file without the others. An EXIF chunk that remains holds only orientation and colour-space information.
How to remove metadata from PNG files
- Add your PNG files (.png) to the tool above. You can add up to 300 files at a time, and each file can be up to 50 MB.
- WipePic reads each file in your browser and shows what it found.
- Remove the metadata. The files stay in the PNG format unless you choose another format.
- Download the cleaned files. WipePic is free, and you do not need an account.
Cleaning does not remove a visible watermark or any other content that is part of the picture, and it cannot remove a record that is stored outside the file.
Questions
Does a PNG from an AI image generator contain the prompt?
Often, yes. Many generators write the prompt, the seed and the settings into PNG text chunks. WipePic finds the common ones (Parameters, Prompt, Workflow and similar fields) and removes them. It cannot remove a watermark that is part of the pixels.
Does a PNG screenshot contain GPS data?
A screenshot normally has no GPS location, because the screen has no position. It can still carry text chunks such as a creation time or the software name, and WipePic removes them.
Is the transparency kept?
Yes. The alpha channel and transparent colours are part of what WipePic keeps, so a logo with a transparent background looks the same afterwards.
Does an animated PNG still animate?
Yes. The animation chunks of an APNG are kept, together with every frame.
