TIFF metadata remover

Remove metadata from TIFF files

Add your TIFF files to the tool above and WipePic removes the EXIF, GPS location, IPTC, XMP, Photoshop data and descriptive tags from each file. The image data, the pages and the colour profile stay, and the file never leaves your device.

What metadata does a TIFF file contain?

A TIFF file is a list of directories (IFDs) with tagged fields. Scanners, editors and cameras can store a lot of hidden data in them:

  • Descriptive tags: the camera make and model, the software, the computer name, the date and time, the artist, the copyright and the image description.
  • The EXIF and GPS directories, with the camera settings, the serial numbers and the location.
  • XMP, IPTC and Photoshop image resources: author, captions, keywords and editing history.
  • Vendor tags and the MakerNote, which can hold serial numbers.
  • An ICC profile and other colour tags.
  • Further pages. A multi-page TIFF (for example a scan) holds one image per page.

What WipePic removes and keeps in TIFF files

WipePic removes:

  • GPS location
  • Camera and device details, serial numbers and the MakerNote
  • Capture and modification dates
  • Artist, copyright and image description
  • Software, computer name and editing history (XMP and Photoshop resources)
  • IPTC captions and keywords
  • Every tag that WipePic does not know, because vendor tags can hold identifying data

WipePic keeps:

  • The image data of every page, copied without decoding it.
  • The pages of a multi-page TIFF, in the same order.
  • The tags that describe the image: size, bit depth, compression, colour layout and resolution.
  • The colour profile (ICC) and the colour tags.
  • The orientation of each page.

WipePic copies TIFF image data that is uncompressed or uses LZW, JPEG, Deflate or PackBits compression. A raw file from a camera that is stored in TIFF structure (for example CR2, NEF or ARW) is not a plain TIFF, and WipePic does not support it. Use DNG for raw photos.

How to remove metadata from TIFF files

  1. Add your TIFF files (.tif and .tiff) to the tool above. You can add up to 300 files at a time, and each file can be up to 50 MB.
  2. WipePic reads each file in your browser and shows what it found.
  3. Remove the metadata. The files stay in the TIFF format unless you choose another format.
  4. Download the cleaned files. WipePic is free, and you do not need an account.

Cleaning does not remove a visible watermark or any other content that is part of the picture, and it cannot remove a record that is stored outside the file.

Questions

Does cleaning change the pixels of my TIFF?

No. WipePic rewrites the tag directories and copies the image data of each page without decoding it, so the pixels stay exactly the same.

Do the pages of a multi-page TIFF stay?

Yes. Each page stays in its place, and WipePic cleans the tags of every page.

Can I clean a camera raw file saved as TIFF, such as CR2 or NEF?

No. These raw files need tags that the cleaner would remove, so WipePic does not support them. A DNG file is supported.

Does the TIFF keep its colours?

Yes. The ICC profile and the colour tags that describe how to show the image are kept.
